Using a Fluidized Air Bed to Turn Sand into a Liquid

When we think of liquids, sand isn’t normally on that list. One former NASA engineer played with the idea of turning sand into a liquid and in doing so, he created a system that allows air to be added to a tub of sand that essentially acts like a liquid.

It’s mesmerizing to watch and likely mesmerizing to play with, this liquid sand phenomenon is actually the result of some pretty interesting physics and some interesting engineering needed to make it happen.
