Scientists Turn Spinach Leaves Into Human Heart Tissue

In today’s edition of “science did what now?” we bring you, spinach hearts. No, this is not some gross new vegetable, it is rather a new technique for recreating human tissue through spinach. The research team has taken spinach leaves and treated them in a way that removes all of the plant cells from the leaf. Once the leaf is free of plant cells, human cells can be superimposed onto the vascular network left behind creating a hybrid human tissue. If this sounds like science fiction, it isn’t.
